MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO:  Technical Services Manager
 
GENERAL SUMMARY:
 
Support production efforts by professionally maintaining machinery, tools, and equipment in a manner that reduces the interruption of production due to mechanical downtime.  Consistently work in a safe manner.  Follow set guidelines intended to reduce scrap, improve efficiency, and meet quality requirements.
 
JOB DUTIES: 
  
·         Troubleshoot and repair equipment by observing mechanical devices in operation and listening to sounds to pinpoint problems.  Start devices to test their performance.
·         Inspect parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements or to detect imperfections.
·         Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment to keep equipment running smoothly and avoid breakdowns.
·         Clean, build, repair or modify equipment as needed.  Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.  Repair or replace defective parts.  Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
·         Perform maintenance activities on facility.
·         Must work in a safe manner at all times abiding by the rules set for the work area. 
·         Immediately report any seen or foreseen problems in the building to management.
·         Provide solid ability to improve process capability through PFMEA, Kaizen, and other methods of determining improvement potential.
·         Read and interpret blue prints, drawings, and electrical schematics.
·         Understand and apply knowledge of three-phase electrical power distribution.
·         Understand basic PLC functions and machine controls.
·         Attend required department meetings with manager to discuss plans, results, problems, and special activities.
·         Must be available to work overtime, work flexible hours or be on-call. 
·         Maintain a clean work environment by leaving work areas clear of debris, collecting tools and putting them away.
 
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
·         Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to the condition of equipment to assess or perform complex work.  Requires working with close limits and a high level of accuracy for sustained periods of time. 
·         Requires the use of judgment to plan, perform and make decision as to the sequence of set-ups, operations and processes within the limitation of recognized or standard methods and procedures.
·         Ability to use precision instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
·         Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, manual, or schedule form.
·         Considerable physical effort required consisting of standing or walking 8-10 hours, continuous lifting up to 50 pounds, twisting, bending and squatting, pushing and pulling, and constant use of arms to fingers to inspect parts or tools, and maneuver heavy units or parts.
·         Must be able to inspect, install or repair machine components and use tool or instrument controls.
·         Required to wear safety glasses and hearing protection at all times on the production floor.  Steel toe shoes suggested.  May be required to utilize other safety equipment identified for specific tasks.

JOB/TASK FUNCTIONS:Sets up dies, fixtures or assemblies in accordance with MIOSHA standards and company procedures.Troubleshoots equipment failures and problems with appropriate personnel.Maintain accurate and complete production and quality records.Selects and sets speed and feed of machine according to type of operation and specified material and finish.Starts machine to obtain first run work piece and verifies dimensional tolerances.Recommends adjustments to processes and equipment to produce a product that meets company standards and customer requirements.Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, ear plugs, etc.).Reports equipment failures and unusual sounds or actions while operating equipment.Instructs operators or other workers in machine setup and operation.Coordinate and pre-stage all necessary items for die change.Set up and program new jobs on initial run.  Fill out proper paperwork and turn in to Supervisor.Follows written instructions to determine production requirements and part specifications as displayed on scheduling boards and work standard sheets.  Secondary sources of information include, but are not limited to, oral instructions from supervisors and/or other employees.Manually loads parts or blanks into machine and place parts into inventory baskets.Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, ear plugs, etc.).Inspects components and assemblies visually for quality defects including scrap marks, rust, burrs, lamination, etc.Inspects parts for quality defects.  Measures part to ensure they meet specifications.Performs first piece inspection of set-up parts as required by Quality Inspection Instructions and/or as directed by supervisor.Records and reports production, quality and inventory information accurately.Labels and/or tags parts and baskets accurately.Performs destruct in accordance with Quality Inspection Instructions.Maintains documentation of weld destruct test data.Notifies Supervisor when specifications are not being met.Monitors press for proper operation and reports any malfunctions or problems to supervisor and maintenance.Performs routine and preventative maintenance and setup including, but not limited to, die setting/fastening, machine lubrication, tools utilized include hand held pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, die bars, etc.Keeps work areas clean, orderly, and safe.Punctual and regular attendance is required.Able and willing to work any shift assigned.Participates in continuous improvement activities.Assumes other duties as directed by supervisor.Drug test required

Manufacturing PRODUCTION SAW OPERATORS Candidates must have the ability to read/use metric and standard SAE measuring tapes/equipment.
